Thomas Heidt
With my art I try to achieve a fusion of organic and mechanical form. I am interested in natural and man-made materials and how they are used in society. My work is strongly influenced by my experience as a First Class Machinist and Fitter.
Most of my sculpture is constructed from timber and metal, using techniques like cutting, grinding, drilling, turning, slicing and assembling.
My art and research practice involves collecting materials and objects from building sites, dumps, scrap metal yards and nature.
A great part of my research practice is material based. I try to learn more about the properties of materials and what meaning they could have.
I believe in dialogue with material.
