Moira Macumboy

Moira Macumboy was born on Thursday Island in 1956 but has lived most of her life in Lockhart River, Cape York, far northern Queensland.

Moira has been painting since 2006 and her work has already been exhibited internationally in Spoleto, Italy in the travelling exhibition Contemporary Indigenous Art of Lockhart River, 2007 at the Palazzo Collicola and also in touring exhibitions in the United States. She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions across Australia. My Country My Place shown at emerge ART SPACE is Moira's first solo exhibition in Australia.

Moira's beautifully restrained colour palette and dynamic composition imbue her paintings featuring recurring themes of water and bush life in and around Lockhart River with a sense of joy and energy.

emerge ART SPACE was very fortunate to have fellow Lockhart River artist and acclaimed dancer Josiah Omeenyo open Moira's exhibition with two traditional dances. Josiah, together with three other Lockart artists Adrian King, Elizabeth 'Queenie' Giblet and Irene Namok (mother of the very celebrated artist Rosella Namok)  are showcased in a simultaneous exhibition New Works from Lockhart River.
