My current art practice is primarily about questioning the realm of order and allowing other domains of possibility to surface/materialise, explored through the medium of paint. The key principles include the use of pattern/motif as a device to investigate tensions between order and disorder, the exploration of visual depth and layering and a focus on the importance of inter-relationship rather than centrality.
The paintings embody a combination of ideas that attempt, for me, to connect Identity and Process through various visual interpretations.
With Identity I am attempting to move toward a differentiation of self that is about re-working and inhabiting space in new ways. Part of this refiguring involves the creation and use of a Feminine Aesthetic in the work and the use of Private Language.
Process is integral to the way I paint. It is often hard to 'language' as I operate from a place of felt-ness, not from words. The notions of Tacit Knowledge and Alchemy offer the closest way to describe/relate the process. Painting as a medium offers lots of sensual possibilities within this way of working.
Ultimately I want to offer my viewers interesting, engaging and inventive abstract paintings.
