From the first Europeans struggle portraying the 'Australian bush', to the pastoralists, the Heildlberg school, through to the recent depictions of 'country' by aboriginal painters, the landscape has continued to figure prominently in Australian art.
I live in a small town surrounded by a rural environment and this, combined with an interest in the way the landscape has been used by different artists, has dominated my recent work. I particularly admire the paintings of some aboriginal artists and I'm fascinated by the way they manage to combine representation and abstraction in their work.
The recent completion of a three year full time course at TAFE, has also rejuvenated and enhanced my art practice.
