Daniel Iley
I was born in Perth, Western Australia in 1975. I have always had an interest in artistic pursuits and have been practising art in one form or another for over fifteen years. In 2006 I completed an Advanced Diploma of Art and Design at Central TAFE. Although I started as a painter my interests have since turned more predominantly to sculpture. I enjoy experimenting and produce work in a variety of mediums and materials including natural wood, copper, steel and ceramic. My arts practice is defined largely by two things- A powerful impulse to make and create and a deep respect and connection with nature. I am currently working on artworks that utilise found wood (carved and combined with steel to make such representations as local wildlife), works that reflect the plant kingdom and embody a sense of movement as well as works which explore my interest in kinetic sculpture. I have been in several exhibitions this year including- New Works-New Faces (Perth Galleries), Piney Lakes Sculpture Walk, Mine Own Executioner (Mundaring Arts Centre) 19th October to 18th November 2007, MLC Sculpture on the Green 12th October to 4th November 2007 and working toward my first solo exhibition at emerge ART SPACE projected April 2008.
