Kim Wong

ARTIST STATEMENT

Inspiration for my work comes from the memories of all the stories and fairy tales I used to love reading when I was growing up. Fairy tales have always inspired me since I was a kid. Fairies, monsters, unicorns, dragons, pirates and spells have all been a huge part of me growing up. They inspire me to think beyond the boundaries and to push my sense of creativity.

Each piece of my jewellery tells a different story, of dangerous adventures and magical lands. Sometime I get an idea by picking up an animal and imagine it being in an adventure or a situation and I try to transfer that idea into my jewellery. Sometimes it's just finding an odd piece I've just sawed out and an idea pops into my head.

I have since fallen in love with my little creations. They remind me of my childhood and the imagination.

I believe in the imagination. I believe there is a child in every one of us and I hope my work is able to bring back that little magic into our lives and remind us of the many impossible things that we so truly believed in when we were little.
