Justin Linney
ARTIST STATEMENT: Justin Linney Design 2009 I look upon jewellery as being a static form that has the ability to be carried, given movement, and treasured by an individual. This simplified outlook allows for refined designs in which the essence of the initial idea remains a prominent feature of each piece. The jewellery I manufacture is designed in a way that enables it to stand upright without support, therefore giving the pieces a sense of existence even when they are not being worn. My recent collection explores ideas surrounding the phenomenon of memories and how they are subconsciously referenced in everyday life. Representations of my memories are communicated subtly in the shapes and forms that constitute the structure of my jewellery. In combining and contrasting these key memories from the past, with elements that reflect the current environment in which I am surrounded by, the reader is made privy to a bold contrast between natural aspects and mechanical man-made components.
